課程宗旨：This course focuses on a chosen theme in literary and cultural studies, aiming to train our graduates’ ability to investigate, both textually and theoretically, a theme within cultural production in a comparative mode. Integrating the knowledge and insights students have acquired in other courses, this course approaches literature comparatively. In the process of examining sensitively what a particular theme means across history, students should acquire further techniques which will be important throughout their postgraduate studies. （取自老師的syllabus)

上課方式：老師會assign每個禮拜的閱讀文本或電影，上課會帶文本/電影重要的部分，剩下必須自己讀，老師會配合ppt，丟一些相關問題給同學，套用幾位理論家（Nietzsche, Foucault, Freud）解釋文本/電影中的概念，然後進行group discussion。老師每學期的教材都會換過，不會重復。這堂課對於訓練寫論文的技巧及思考模式很有幫助。



老師的問題會比較think out of box，鼓勵同學不要以既定的思考模式來思考，也很重視邏輯，教材多元，可以學習很多(尤其是思考方式)，老師也常常推薦同學去看時下的藝文表演、展覽、電影等等，也會很熱心的幫同學了解。
例如：Pieta聖殤剛好上映，又跟revenge有關，老師就會推薦同學去看，然後加進課程討論。還有今年元旦補課是前往北美館看雙年展，看完大家一起討論展覽概念。或是今年三月來台演出的戲劇賭徒，老師也會在上課第一周帶同學讀原作。



期中/期末essay(約1200-1500字)只須根據上課的教材寫，交件2禮拜前老師會請同學交報告proposal，閱畢後寫建議，同學再根據建議修改，最後再交最後的版本。

Presentation的方式比較像是國中三角形證明題，先建立你的argument，再找各種證據支持你的說法，是比較specific的內容，跟期中期末essay的方式一樣(跟大學general介紹某個東西的簡報不同)。
